Evil people don't manipulate you by appealing to your worst qualities, they manipulate you by appealing to the qualities you think of as being the most noble.
It's not that you hate X, it's that you love those threatened by X.
Being anti war means closing off your heart to being manipulated into supprting the killing of others through the compassion you have for what is presented to you as being their victims.
You have to be presented with a man who is about to kill an innocent child, and refuse to save that child by killing the evil man.
