There are quite a few fruit that are ideal for backyard farms, but are rarely heard of because they lack commercial appeal or profit.

Hardy fruits that require little maintenance and are less susceptible to more common blights and disease: medlar, quince, persimmon, gooseberry, honeyberry, chinese kiwi, turkish hazelnut, wineberry, bilberry...

Thought it would be the paw paw; not disappointed. Didn't know it was like a cherimoya or soursop.

It's rare that someone shares a surprising fact that interests me like this. Well done. I live in one of the states mentioned; it's just so odd to go your whole life and never once hear mention of an edible fruit native to where you live. How strange. Now I want to try one pretty badly.

Another forgotten native edible is Yaupon, the only plant in North America which contains caffeine. Had some while in Waco last week. Makes a good tea and has many healthy ingredients. https://lostpinesyaupontea.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwsJ6TBhAIEiwAfl4TWPTXrWFUnenXB4UpYOo-tl9qA7H1mvAYErCLSOMbpMtnxBraV2YClxoCL30QAvD_BwE

And then there's this: https://www.thesophisticatedcaveman.com/pine-needle-tea/

Pine-needle tea sounds interesting.

Hi Ragnar. We seem to be getting on better these days. Agree?

I don’t know what weird Australian venom you are smoking

Retarded BBC author writes about a native American fruit in the "U.S." section but then gives measurements "7 to 13cm long with a weight of up to half a kilogram"

Well that's fascinating. Thanks Paul. I am going to look into planting some of this

Yep, the Pawpaw. The "Indiana Banana." Had one once, and yes, it did taste like a banana somewhat. Quite delicious, and ripe for a mass re-discovery.

if you live in a solid zone 5 or higher, you should plant yourself a paw paw

If someone doesn't make their username PawPaw now, it'd be a shame, Cantaloupe.
