Modern cars look like old people shoes

[ - ] Clubberlang 3 points 2 yearsApr 18, 2022 20:25:59 ago (+3/-0)

All modern cars are auto cad designed and engineered to oppease globohomo.

These were hand drawn and the time was taken with detail.

Hand made too. all of those panels had to be hand wheeled into shape.

The Aero 8 was beautiful, no longer in production. The Plus Four and Plus Six are the new models.

Pretty much can't anymore. Not in the US anyway. Safety regs killed a lot of what made this.

[ - ] Broc_Liath [op] 3 points 2 yearsApr 18, 2022 18:11:58 ago (+3/-0)

Even a roll bar on the back wouldn't kill it imo.

What can I say though... I'm a man who likes his curves.

[ - ] CPU 1 point 2 yearsApr 18, 2022 21:25:39 ago (+1/-0)

Ironically a roll cage or 5 point harness is illegal to sell from a manufacture in the USA.

It's not about safety, it's about control.

Chubby chaser.

In that car I could probably chase some aircraft.

A lot of really cool designs of the past have a front end which, when striking another human will assist pulling them under the car and guarantee their death. Modern designs have front ends which bounce the body upward and outward away from being smashed. The vehicle is designed to crumple and pancake at the great expense of the owner. One way around this is equipping your vehicle with a solid steel bumper, often a better choice than a bull bar if you can afford it, even better, get one with a winch so you can pull your vehicle out of bad situations. You can now smash through deer without destroying the entire front end, especially lower speed collisions. Or in the zombie apocalypse, you can ravage through more road blocks and zombies without needing to stress as much as being stock. A quality off road vehicle with steel replaced bumper is a nice investment in a Biden administration as shit may hit the fan at any moment and you can ignore the blocked up roads in a disaster by driving around everyone or through anyone trying to slow you down.

I drive a Jaguar with a leaper on the front of the hood, if someone were to be hit with the front end of my car I would get to impale them. That's the way I like it

The jaguar impaler

Safety and emissions laws prevent it. But if you look at 3 wheeled "cars" you can find essentially the same thing.

I read an article a few years ago about US safety standards. It concerned Mahindra and it's importation of their "off road" jeep.

It turns out that Mahindra bought the original patent of the Willys Jeep and those street shitters have been producing it for decades, just like we did back in the 40's.

So when you go to price one they're $14-18k yet an "American" jeep is $80k......AND THAT'S WITH THE IMPORTATION AND TAXATION COSTS. The American Jeep has more or less $60,000 of safety, fuel economy and luxuries in it. SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLARS of safety.

There's more to it but I'm boring you already.....something to think about though.

I remember seeing one at an auto show in the 70s. My father pointed out how clean and unencumbered the engine looked.

Turns out it looks better than it performs in a wind tunnel. You can probably find someone to make you a car with a curvy body. Well, I see them on TV sometimes. It's just not something that has mass appeal.

[ - ] UncleDoug 0 points 2 yearsApr 18, 2022 23:16:48 ago (+0/-0)

Back when marques used to use design companies like Pininfarina before they all want globohomo.

modern cars aren't "designed"

[ - ] RepublicanNerd 1 point 2 yearsApr 18, 2022 20:23:46 ago (+1/-0)

The problem is that most cars are styled for the Larger Asian market and they have no taste all sharp edges, flat panels and bits randomly added on.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 2 yearsApr 18, 2022 20:27:58 ago (+1/-0)

So basically designed by people that have slanted eyes and can't see out out them well.

[ - ] RepublicanNerd 1 point 2 yearsApr 18, 2022 21:21:26 ago (+1/-0)

Yep, just look at all the slanted headlight cars these days :)

Probably very low, like the current time period.

One went at auction for $2.5 million
