Where did the Jews, who you suggest get all of their power through economic treachery and storytelling, get the power to 'inflict plagues and natural disasters' sufficient to leave Egypt in ruins?
Exodus is not based on a single fucking story. It's a myth that evolved from many such cycles of Semite interactions with Egypt, and not even just a single Semitic people, but different tribes from all over the Levant. Jewish history is a story of getting in where there's opportunity, overstepping one's boundaries, getting booted out, and then proclaiming that the booter-outers (who were previously your benefactors) are pure evil who captured you and wouldn't let you leave.
The same shit went on with Babylon. Look at the way Babylon is portrayed in the Torah. In reality, the Jews loved Babylon. Most of them anyway. When the Persians sacked Babylon and told the Jews to take a hike, most of them didn't want to leave. It was (relatively to the area) like modern day New York City.
