In 144 AD, Marcion of Sinope compiled the first bible, comprising an earlier version of what later became the book of Luke (and which Marcion called The Gospel of the Lord in his bible) and several Pauline epistles. It's very evident that all of the gospels and epistles have been tampered with (additions, interpolations, and the like), and Marcion, who did NOT like jews, would have none of that.
Marcion recognized Jesus as a specifically non-jewish deity, the son of the true God and not Yahweh, who Marcion considered to be a minor jewish demiurge. He also wanted none of the Hebrew scriptures and especially the jewish law. His bible was in use for centuries, until the church, still a collection of various congregations but moving toward power consolidated in Rome, branded him a heretic.
Even then, most congregations had little use for the Hebrew scriptures. It wasn't even part of the biblical canon until 325. From the Web site provided above:
"Emperor Constantine, a worshipper of the Roman Sun God, convenes the Council of Nicaea and orders the Hebrew bible (Old Testament) be added to the Christian bible. The Gospel of the Lord is also removed and replaced with scriptures of unknown origin."
This is the best reason why no Christian needs to recognize the Hebrew scriptures. Because Jesus was not a jew. That was added to convert jews into the new faith.
