Reminder that the electoral system in France is fully fortified, which we saw last time.

I recall the entire thing being mail-in, and it worked by everyone being sent a Macron card and a Le Pen card, for scrapping one and voting with the other.

Except that many people received two Macron cards, and it has plenty of opportunity for Le Pen cards to disappear, as with the envelopes in US elections which reveal party registration via D or R in the barcode on the back.

Thats not how it works here man. You picķ up your vote slip in your local precinct. They do send some out but most people don't use those.

First round vote is this Sunday. Macron is likely to make round 2. Right now polls show LePen a few points ahead of Melanchon the extreme socialist candidate but I can tell you now that a lot of people are talking about voting Melanchon so second round isn't between Macron and LePen like last time. Nobody wants Macron again (about 30% do but the other REALLY don't) and many are switching to Melanchon to push LePen out of round 2. If LePen squeezes through there will be a lot of abstention and a lot of LePen protest votes.
This election could go any direction. Its going to be interesting.
