Microsoft created achievements as part of a darpa project. The idea was to have a system to base learning from video games. They have applied this system to linked in badges.
What this means, is that an alternative education system is now in place and has been implemented. This one, like certifications, is merit based. the university system is obsolete, and when it collapses a lot of the pozz will disappear with it.
