I used to work for Disney. This is 100% true.

In the Disney Global handbook, the policies of which applies to all divisions, you are supposed to first call the Home Office (what they call corporate HQ) and get approval before calling 9-1-1 or any outside help/authority.

There's usually a retardedly long chain of command too, so if you're a grunt cast member, you notify the Asst. Manager, who then notifies the Manager, who then notifies the Regional Director, who then contacts Home Office, asks the thing, then relays the answer all the way back down.

We had an incident where we thought a child had been kidnapped. So I was like "Fuck you niggers, I'm calling 9-1-1."

And I did. And the Asst. Manager was like "Heyyyy Splooge, didja get Home Office approval?" with a shit-eating fake smile, and I was like "Fuck off, you know that's bullshit."

So the cops came, found the kid not too far from where we were looking. Good deal, cuz the parents were freaking out.

I later got an extremely passive aggressive verbal warning from the Asst. Manager, and the next day, some lady from the Home Office called the department and spoke to me about "chain of command" type shit.

I quit not long after that.

My wife worked for them as well at one point some time ago. They had bought out her previous employer; they made everything shittier and all the best people ended up quitting before too long. They've been getting shittier for decades, but at this point it's just obscenely ridiculous!

Yeah the reason the call from Home Office didn't happen till the next day is because they all leave the CA office at like, 4:30PM and the kid went missing around 5 or 6. So in reality, had I followed the "procedure," I would've put in a request to call 9-1-1, it would've been a shitload of voicemails all the way to the top, and then I'd hear back the next day whether or not it was okay for me to call 9-1-1. No kidding.

I'm not one to weep for any corp, but it is sad what they have done to Disney. Walt hated them and now they own what he built and they love dragging it through the mud.

Every once in a while I'll see one of those old videos of Walt talking about some new thing they were working on. It was pretty amazing what they did. Those old videos are cool.

His idea for the parks was amazing and at the perfect time. A nice clean place to be able to take your kids to and build memories with is amazing. The company is now total shit, but I took my 6 year old summer to Disney World last summer anyway. The park remains surprisingly cancer free I didnt get triggered once and I have the glasses. He had more fun on Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Carribean as ive seen him have anywhere. We got a kick out of small world. 70 year old attractions made by the man himself, still killing it with kids in the sea of bullshit that is entertainment today.
