Probably a bunch of different shit. The water is shit, the pipes they flow through are toxic. Its hard and expensive to get decent food. Most people live under very polluted air. Nevermind what media and the medical system are doing to people.

Early immune system disorder. Could be caused by illness. Autism is probably relatively normal, though in centuries past many children died of common illnesses so the rate of autism would be lessened by those who died. Survivors of early childhood illness had high rates of autism but in those eras the disorder did not exist and was not considered a disability.
