Half of the population and most of the laborers are Mexican, so not suprising.

My naive ass thought "Mexicans at Home Deopt" was bullshit, until I needed to go to several Home Depots in LA.

Should see the homeless camps...only a few catch fire.

I came from the midwest. Still consider LA hell.

Stay away from bigger cities and gain a cold tolerance and the Great Lakes area is great.

In my experiences, people tend to be a lot more easygoing and less assholish the colder the climate is. Not counting leftist cities, of course.

The theory I have is "winter kills off the useless". Bums can't survive weeks below zero, so they migrate to warmer climates.

That being said, colder it gets, the more self-sufficient one becomes. With self-sufficiency comes wisdom, knowledge and compassion. When you have people with compassion and you're useful in some way, that seems to be the sweet spot for "nice and polite" while overall minding their own shit.

From experience, Michiganders are more dickish, Wisconsinites are nice, Iowans are dumb and nosy and Minnesotans have "Minnesota nice" which for sure can come off as disingenuous.

Unless you live in Amish country or the land of Fuck Off.

My grandmother sold her really nice condo there for stupid cheap and didn't tell any of us until it was sold. It was extremely close to the beach, too.
