I had to say goodbye to my dog today too. I've always had multiple dogs at once. This however is the first time in my life without a dog. About 6 months ago we said goodbye to our dog molly and today we said goodbye to her sister. So tonight I'll toast a glass to my dog Fudge as well as your pup.

So sorry! Been there.

she was my first dog, never lived in anyplace that would allow a dog as a kid as soon as I got to a Place that I could own a dog I got her. she was attached to me from the start never had to worry about her running off mostly went off leash, she went everywhere with me I even took her hunting and she was a horrible hunting dog but I couldn't say no cause she would be so excited to go. I'll raise a toast to Fudge and Natasha

As someone who has been here before, allow me to give you some advice. Obviously today sucks and the next few days or longer will suck too. You're going to start to realize some of your routines will be changing. If you have any leftover unopened dog food you can give it to a local shelter or vet. From the little bit you shared it sure sounds like you had a great one. 16 years...most dogs don't live that long, so she had a good run. Lastly don't let today be your lasting memory of her. You had 16 good years with her so I'm sure you have plenty of good memories.

One more thing: I'm sure I can speak for OP in saying thank you to everyone for your condolences and kind words. Time to toast to a couple great puppers. Cheers!

I'm so sorry. It's hard as your pack dwindles down. I always say that you take the animals God sends you. God will send you another when it's time.

My condolences. I've been there.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Look at that fine specimen of canine perfection. Damn.

That's a fucking beauty right there boys. It looks as if it could tear the balls off of 6 niggers before it breaks into a sweat.

No creature has been more devoted and loyal to me as my dogs.

I know its hard man, a couple years ago we had to put down our buddy of 15 years. When its that long, they are just as close as anyone else in the family. Just know that despite it being a hard choice, you absolutely did the right thing for her. She knows you cared.

[ - ] Qwertytoal 4 points 2 yearsMar 21, 2022 21:43:06 ago (+4/-0)

We are complete strangers. But you chose to upload a wonderful photo of an awesome looking dog and share this photo, this dog and her large impact on your life. Thank you for doing so.
Those of us who have dogs will understand how much she meant to you, and those unfortunate people who had to experience the passing away of their dog, they also understand a portion of your extreme sadness and loss.
I had to put my dog down a few years ago, and I chose to have the vet come to our home so he didnt feel anxious. The entire time he looked into my eyes like he knew I was doing this for him, but he definitely wanted to make sure I wouod remember his greatness and strength... and stubbornness, and he actually fought against the drugs and painkillers and the vet had to give him much more than the standard dose. And it was so hard to watch him pass away... shoot, my eyes are getting like when I cut onions, I wont share more details, youre aware of this as youre living throufh it now.
I hope one day it stops hurting as much as it hurts now, although remember this, the more it hurts now, is a reflection of how much she loved you and you loved her. You gave her an incredible life! That is all any of us can do for our dogs. Peace be with you.

Still remember, after all these years, how devastating the loss of our family Newfoundland was. He went in for an operation and never came out.

Gorgeous, lovely dog.

Sorry that happened, eventually the happy memories will be there for you.

[ - ] calx 3 points 2 yearsMar 21, 2022 23:21:33 ago (+3/-0)

Damn man I'm sorry bob. I never grew up with a pet so I have no idea what it feels like to lose one. (Mom hated pets God help us.) Cheers and hope you find another buddy soon. :)

Preparing to say goodbye to one, maybe two dogs, and a cat.

[ - ] Fuzzybob13 [op] 4 points 2 yearsMar 21, 2022 22:18:05 ago (+4/-0)

Yeah it sucks knowing it's coming, she was good Friday morning rapidly declined by Sunday she couldn't walk anymore spent the weekend sleeping on the floor with her so she would relax and not try and get up

[ - ] La_Chalupacabra 3 points 2 yearsMar 22, 2022 15:05:24 ago (+3/-0)

I moved my bed to the floor so mine could still get in without needing to be helped.
I was also concerned that her failing eyesight would eventually lead to a fall.
A small price to pay to ensure her happiness and safety.

[ - ] WEHRMACHT_BITCHES_AT 3 points 2 yearsMar 21, 2022 21:47:36 ago (+3/-0)

One thing I've found is that you needn't wait too long before getting another doggo. It's not about replacing them because they're all so unique and each will forever have a special place in our hearts. With that said, being a dog person without a dog is a sadness your departed friend wouldn't want for you. Grieve and remember the good times but don't shy away from going out to find a new buddy because that's what your old buddy would want.

Hey, on the bright side, each day from tomorrow on will get better. Love and cherish their memory and keep moving forward for their honor. No dog would want their owner sad. Just like a fallen Viking brother drink to their passing and memories, and think back fondly of the time you had.

[ - ] Razzoriel 2 points 2 yearsMar 21, 2022 20:13:44 ago (+2/-0)

Dont be sad she left you. Be happy she was by your side unconditionally for 16 years.

Why do dogs have short lives?

Because they already know how to live.

To OP: in sorry for your loss. I love our dog very much, just as much as my prior ones. Life will go on.

To the faggots in the comments: people saying "doggo" and "puppers" remind me of those thin gay lispy cashiers that create utter contempt within you. To the other fag saying there's nothing harder than losing a dog; what a life you've lived. It's no wonder our country is in shambles. Weak faggots everywhere.

They are terms of endearment. But keep coming to conclusions about a whole person's identity from a few words.
