JUST SO YOU KNOW

submitted by Zyklonbeekeeper to HDLunited 3.1 yearsMar 20, 2022 16:13:17 ago (+18/-1)     (HDLunited)

Just to let everyone here know I am now monitoring my bear dens for restless activity. The last few days have caused a major meltdown causing water to flow and accumulate...once water touches the den or dugout they'll be out wandering around.

I know all of you are organically orgasmic about the day-to-day life of my bruins and this is duly noted by yours truly, so, you can rest assured that I will keep everyone abreast of the situation as it unfolds.

Just got home from Spring Reunion and I see this shit lol. 6 days in the woods and didn't see a single bear, plenty of fractals though.

Do you have any data about the winter? Harsh? Mild? Average?

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper [op] 5 points 3.1 yearsMar 20, 2022 17:00:52 ago (+5/-0)

FUCKING BRUTAL WINTER THIS YEAR, I'M GLAD IT'S ALMOST OVER.
All indications of harsh winter were evident in the amount of food the bears consumed last fall along with the early mating rituals, they actually got into the "reproductive mood" in July of last year, normally they start getting frisky around mid to late August. But it was a cold long winter with no Jan thaw. We'll see what the bears have to predict this year. Soon they'll be out.

All the bear news as it tappens :)

Love hearing about what’s happening, the wild animals always know whats going on with the seasons.

I don't want you to dox yourself, but what are the numbers compared to an "average" year temperature wise?

People on the upper plains I talk to said it was pretty cold, but not overly notable, as in no strings of 20 days of "can't go outside" cold.

Although the numbers I heard were about 10F below normal. If the average Jan temp was 20F (high and low added and divided by 2 - who does that??) then this year was about 10F on average. Still crazy cold to me, but seems like people could still go do outdoor activities with just added layers.

We're in Centigrade but I'll reply in Fahrenheit, most winter from end of Dec to 2nd week of February the temps would range from -22 down to -38F....average long duration temp of cold, 6 weeks from Jan to mid February was -22 to -25....last year I burned 10cords of maple hardwood, I'm at 14 cords right now and burning season doesn't end until mid April, I'll be at 15cords this year and that's 6 months of heat beginning last November. I've seen periods of -35 down to -48 (-62 I experienced in January 1994 near James Bay) but we've always had warming periods. This was a hard winter for snow, cold and fucking ice.
And there you have it.

Much appreciated.

I think cords of wood is a very good and robust method of measuring winters. A long record of that would be quite fascinating to study.
