Just of the cuff, have you heard of senolytics? Its a strategy for treating some chronic illnesses. The gist is this: its better to kill old, dysfunctional cells which are just stealing resources from healthier cells (senolysis). I see that some senolytic drugs are being tried on copd, like metformin and low doses of chemo agents such as rapamycin, and some tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Ask your doc about senolytics, or maybe seek out a doc that prescribes them. Well think about it anyway.
