This is tangential to v/music, but I tend to disassociate an artist or band from their music. I think that music, specifically when talking a specific musical piece like a song, is a separate entity from the individual that spawned it.

Can the moral character of a song be judged based on the actions and moral character of the human being that created it? I have a large variety of music collected from artists and bands that I would never want to meet in person because I disagree with the way they live their lives. Some are downright malicious entities, but their music creates soundscapes I enjoy.

Is music (and art in general) infused with an artist's beliefs/morals/personality like some sort of simulacrum? Furthermore, is the simulacrum of an evil person evil itself? There are days when I think I should go through my collection and get rid of all the music from bands/artists that are leftist NPCs, edgy LA degenerates, jews, etc. but that would remove the majority of the music made starting from the 60s onwards.

This is a topic I am going to continue to think about. Thank you for the prompt.
