Then in the 70's a church in Mississippi was poised to have its tax-exempt status pulled by the courts because they wouldn't allow blacks to be priests.
Then, like a bolt of lightning out of a clear sky, God commanded mormons to allow blacks to become priests.
This included belief that anyone with black skin was a descendant of the Canaanites. Pharaoh of the Bible's Old Testament was a Canaanite. They didn't want any of his possible descendants being priests in the Mormon church.
