One major problem, everyone spends their money on utter shit today. No sense of value.
I just left a job after 3 months… no I will not continue to make you money while you flatline my wages for busting ass.
Fuck this gay clown world. They want you to be qualified to get an entry level position and have zero ability to talk about progressing within the company.
I got a buddy in electrical who's been doing an apprenticeship-type work/learn thing, but (((upper management))) is kicking them out because they refuse to get jabbed.
The "problem" with skilled trades is you have to do the work yourself. Now this isn't a real problem, but it is the issue that causes people great frustration. If you have to do the work yourself, that distracts you from being able to perform the administrative duties of normal business operation. Which means, in the competitive environment, you have to specialize in your task while someone else administrates for you. This means that there is someone that is paid solely to maintain records, handle payments and billing and whatnot. Then there will be management needed at a certain threshhold size.
My point is, if you're the one doing the real work, you eventually get left out of the loop regarding all of the administrative duties that leverage the cost of doing business. This inevitably erodes your negotiating ability because you just don't have the information. This is why people seek management jobs; especially women who have no capacity for doing real work and can only excel at telling others what to do. I wish it wasn't this way, but that's the way it is. If your trade is in enough demand then you have some negotiating leverage but it just doesn't seem like enough to compensate for the loss of administrative information. The management will hide the numbers from you and lie to you about everything. Ideally, you need to run your own business with the skills you learn. Not trying to say don't learn a skilled trade, I think it's definitely still worth it. I just don't believe it's an "end-all" solution to income woes.
all of the male college interns we get at work are so timid and afraid to even speak. all of the female college interns are so prideful and full of themselves and outspoken. We had one female intern who literally told a room full of highly educated, highly experienced engineers that they didn't know what they were doing and she was going to fix it for them. She, of course, did not fix anything and wouldn't even acknowledge that her "fix" was useless and ineffective.
skilled trades is one option, but men really need all options. and boys really need some leadership examples and coaching on being a strong man. boys are beaten down continually in school from even before kindergarten, and if they don't comply, they are sent to "alternative" school as a problem child and given drugs. trades are good, but not a complete fix.

Adam Smith enumerates the many issues with apprenticeships in his "Wealth of Nations."
The main problem was that apprentices were usually bound for unreasonable amounts of time for negligible compensation. It was manageable because there weren't open channels of information like today. In order to maintain an apprenticeship scenario, there would be a large amount of government licensing necessary in order to prevent anyone from performing trades that required the apprenticeship term much like electricians today.

I would say a hybrid system of OJT and class work is best. That's how unions like the iron workers and pipe fitters train their guys. Same with non-union like mechanical trades (for the most part) The current system in place in these fields actually works pretty decent if you apply yourself.
I would agree. And electricians aren't really a good example on my part because that licensure arrangement is done primarily to keep noobs from creating fire traps. If you want to be an electrician you have to put in so much time that you're bound to pick up at least one or two safety rules.
They tried something like that; it didn't work. Unless you're willing to imprison these invaders or better yet, execute them, the invasion will continue unabated.
That is exactly what will happen. The office jobs used to be reserved for the older guys that are ready to be "put out to pasture" so to speak. Nowadays, because women lack the wherewithall to perform the real work, they are promoted into these jobs and the old hands have to keep toiling until they retire.
