That's the direction Rob Zombie goes sometimes. He's been trying to make a movie about the story of Groucho Marx while Erin Fleming moved into his house and controlled his life, as observed by a kid named Steve Stoliar who was hired by Fleming to catalog Groucho's collection of memorabilia. It's a fascinating read. It looks like the project has a new director.

It's the Munsters, it relies upon the same kid-friendly, watered down morbid humor as the Addams family did, and what hotel transylvania, ghoul school, or monster high rely on today.

"What if a family thats straight out of a gothic horror novel (and possibly literally having come out of one) showed up in the American suburbs, but they were actually the nicest folks you could meet (despite the general creepiness)?"

It's a trend that has been followed by any kids media that features elements of gothic or horror stories, but where the scary or creepy stuff is rendered kid friendly, and the characters are remade to be friendly in general.

Instead of humans who were somehow transformed into creatures that were known to harm the members of their former species, they are now just trying to live alongside humans in peace, perhaps under a human identity, and hiding what they have become as best they could.
