Thanks! We were just sparking up this discussion over here https://www.voat.xyz/viewpost?postid=622b4eba2a138. I'll add this and bring the list of other search engines back here.

No, they're gay.

They're just a little less gay than those even worse alternatives!

Bring back altavista!

Stupid dum didn't include brave search in the test... but it's pretty lame all in all, in my superduper humble opinion. [edit : derp, yeah he did, and it did as well as I expected; for some reason my stupid faggot search brought up nothing when I searched the page for 'brave'... I blame this WHITE PEEEEPOEZ!!!

I'm gonna try yandex, comrade!

For some reason, older boomer types really liked yahoo for a long time there. The TV ads, maybe? Wo the fuck knows. Altavista was still a thing when google started? I guess having switched to google really early on, I stopped paying attention to the others, because early google was pretty awesome.

Wait, I remember, didn't AOL make yahoo their default search engine? And there was an army of tards using AOL.

I was a fancy lad, so I got my own Cisco 2600 router and a bonded ISDN line [256k synchronous]. A T1 was for the REALLY fancy lads still, at that point! But I also hosted sites and shit from my home server, so it was sort of a business expense.

When it came out, Google blew all the other search engines out of the water.

Now, google just blows!

I was more of a hotbot guy back in the altavista days. Also Brave is in fact in the results.

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 3.1 yearsMar 14, 2022 18:50:44 ago (+0/-0)

Hotbot?! GAAAAAYY!!!!!

Yeah, I never even tried that one, I don't think. Also YOUR FACE is in the results!

I bet hotbot was better than any of these faggot search engines we're stuck with these days, but back then everything relied on arbitrary site metadata being honest and stuff, so there was that. Even though it was still relatively primitive, the internet sure was a lot more fun back then!

Did hotbot have a funny mascot / logo of a silly robot with on wheel? Or was that somethihg else? My memory is clouded, I was rather drunk back then... kind of like now, but also back then.

hotbot was definitely better than what we have now. I still used it up until like 2002, which was a few years after Google started taking off. They didn't have any kind of mascot that I remember. Just a weird swirly logo.
