https://youtu.be/g59udXofPIMIt seems to me the AK-47 stands alone as the most 'bad' gun and thus the coolest. For years it has vied with the AR-15 as the gun American liberals want to ban the most - and actually was banned in the Clinton era 'assault weapons' ban. Though in truth it preceded the AR-15 as evil gun number one. In addition it is associated with mass shootings, is known as the jihadist terror weapon of choice, and most of all - is RUSSIAN. Need I say more?

So is it also a Nazi gun? Coolness overload, Batman.
Edit: just pulled this up:
Internally, the AK-47 shares key design features with the American M-1 Garand, of which the Russians likely had sample copies.
Allegations that Kalashnikov copied the StG 44 have dogged the AK-47 and its inventor for years, which makes the sculptor's mistake even more embarrassing.

Something there about him being a "Kazakh farm boy" too. I think that part is wrong. Or in any case I think he was a Russian.

During the Cold War, the USSR supplied arms to anti-Western insurgent terrorists. The AK-47 became a symbol of left-wing revolution; between 30-50 million copies and variations of the AK-47 have been produced globally, making it the most widely used rifle in the world.
