I’ve understood the deal with proxy wars for decades, but it never struck me until now just how truly evil it is to pump arms into 1 side of a foreign countries conflict, instead of going in yourself.

.223 is out of steam at that distance though. 2/3 of the energy is lost by 400m. At 800m it has lost more than 90% of its energy. A thick jacket could stop it. .308 is a far better choice.

If I'm going to snipe at that distance I'm going with my .270 WSM, not my 6.5 or 7mm or .300mag, and for anything in the 3/4 - 1mile range I'll use my .50 with 800grn projectiles. The reference to the .22 calibers is only to inform you that I have the capabilities to effectively strike at that distance, if I had to place the odd head shot at 800yrds with a .22 I would but I wouldn't plan for it that way....but 300 to 500yrds no problem with the 22-250, the AR.223 loses pressure with the short barrel but I've done 800yrd shots with a Wyoming Arms AR with a cross wind which required 20inches compensation on windage.
