The first thing one needs to understand is they have the capability technologically. And the second is that with the current polarization and talk of civil war their fear of social media as a radicalization agent becomes a national security imperative.

All the blatantly stupid threads the last few years with hundreds of upvotes make more sense in light of this. The anti-white woman division being pushed especially hard lately deserves special attention though. Intelligence agencies don't necessarily create the narratives but they will amplify the ones that they like.

It matters quite a lot. As it amounts to infringing on the First Amendment with some classified op and inhibits our ability to even talk to the point that I'm having to give thought to moving operations into internet space less vulnerable to US AI programs.

I’m going to have to play jew’s advocate here, simply to explain their behavior and psychology.

Where in the Constitution does it say that the government can’t assault the people with a specific ideology such that they are forced to believe it through sheer lack of exposure to anything else? They’re technically not censoring or silencing us by doing this, they’re simply drowning truth in an infinite ocean of lies (I’ve used this phrase man times before). It’s still there! If you can find it. Like a survivor of a plane crash floating in a raft on the Pacific Ocean.

China and Russia do censor of course. But mine is really a very old idea. As political dissidents - really as enemies of the state - we have to consider relying on foreign powers hostile to the US. This is as old as the US itself as the Founding Fathers got assistance from France and other enemies of the British.

Which is to say maybe they won't censor us. Or at least as much as the US is. What we are seeing here really is a lot of visibility suppression of what the US government doesn't like. That is dubious constitutionally.

Of course I could be wrong. If I am it is probably NGOs doing it. Or a mix of both. But I've seen too much strong evidence of government involvement to find it likely they are uninvolved.

I should add that with the current war in Ukraine this is only heightened all the more.

It's probably going to be necessary to use Chinese or Russian internet or encrypted or restricted platforms.
