You get used to carrying all the weight rather quickly. I normally carried 8 extra magazines while on dismounted patrol. Of course thats in additon to body armor and ESAPI plates, helmet, hydration bladder, and 30 to 50 pounds of gear in my assualt pack.

I mostly meant there had to be a transfer process from the govt. to the civilians. It's not like they have an actual supply line which is the lifeblood. Also, going to run out of food rather quickly as well.

The United States of America hasn't been invaded by another country since 1812. No other nation has truly threatened our freedoms that we haven't first provoked. The majority of people I know that enlisted post-Iraq did it for the college money/opportunity and due to lack of opportunities. Right after 9/11, I knew a bunch of people who joined to get revenge, basically on anyone. I also know some people who genuinely thought that they were signing up to defend freedom. Again, for the most part, a lot more jaded after Iraq. Just from my experience, I don't know anyone who signed up to be a hero. Maybe in a Punisher sort of way. I do know people who were just dumb and violent and felt like the military would be a good place to do some violence.

Won't do much good to fly into, say, Poland and then have to walk to Kiev. That's a long time without logistical support.

I imagine any vehicle traffic into Ukraine is as highly regulated as air traffic.

If they do have to walk... fuck me. The war would be over by the time they even leave poland. I measured it and Warsaw to Kiev is roughly New York to Detroit, except Kiev probably won't be as run down as detroit after the bombs are done.

I imagine it depends on the road. Russian forces are scattered across the major areas of nothern Ukraine, and probably have complete control of access in many areas.

There's other things you could do with volunteers, like use them as drivers, cooks, gophers etc. But taking in thousands of followers who don't speak the local language then coordinating them all do do useful things in a rapidly moving war...
