Have you tried selecting the red envelope more than once?

The same notification will display for comment replies, mentions and PMs. You may have some of each.

Check previous pages, comments, inbox, etc. It will eventually go away.

If you have more than one page of messages, it will stay red until you go to the page with unread messages. When you click the envelope it should take you to the box with unread messages. Go to the bottom, click next.

Not the envelope, click on the word "next."

Try clicking "Mark all read" on the top right corner of the inbox. That should work. If not let me know and I will manually fix it.
