Remote vehicle shutdown violates rights.

There are efforts underway to make vehicles
able to be shutdown remotely

Not only will criminals use this for
Violent acts (BLM and antifa disabling
escaping families)

It's also effectively property theft
And prevents protesting.

I have two 21+ year old F-150s and I plan on keeping them. I was looking at ordering a new one for ‘22, but the price on my build jumped 7k in just a few months and I don’t want all that tech crap, especially the big gay screen on the dash. I’ll just keep my old ones running forever. I’m the original owner on both of them. I can have the shit rebuilt when it wears out. Fuck em.

Did the Canadian convoy disperse already?

Did anything happen with the peaceful protest?

[ - ] redgreenpill 2 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 15:07:50 ago (+2/-0)

Which Canadian convoy one are you referring to? There are a few. The main one in Ottawa moved to the outskirts of the city a week ago because the police powers that were installed while the war act 2.0 was active are still in effect.

The protesters were violently beaten and shot at with rubber bullets and tear gas. Several were arrested.

Thanks for the update.

That's fucking horrible! What are people going to do if they have to focus on actually driving?

[ - ] localsal 2 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 16:04:48 ago (+2/-0)

Most of those systems are not driver initiated or useful in that way. A lot are diagnostic or update level.

Guess when the signal turns off the car will behave like a 20 year old car.

The horror!

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 2 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 16:33:51 ago (+2/-0)

99.9% of the digital crap in regards to vehicle operation is unnecessary. What I mean is that the digital crap is not necessary to make an engine function reliably. Sure, they designed the engines so that they need the crap to function, but it wasn't actually necessary to design them as such in the first place.

Guess when the signal turns off the car will behave like a 20 year old car.
My guess is that the vehicle will stop functioning altogether.

[ - ] localsal 1 point 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 16:59:04 ago (+1/-0)

Your guess is probably very close to reality. So many electronic checks needed for startup, that a single one could prevent even engaging the ignition.

The whole "phone home" and "always online" features should be a module that can be disconnected by the owner. But (((they))) will never allow that freedom.

I've owned and worked on many vehicles from the 1960s, 70s, 80s. They all ran just fine and did what I asked them to do without any computerization. I did like having electronic ignition versus points and condenser in the new vehicles, but everything else is unnecessary.

Favorite unnecessary customer option-headlights that stay-ON,after you get out of the car & walk to the house.

And yet not a single pickup has headlights I can aim up or down with a switch, despite being designed to squat when loaded or towing.

It is kinda nice to not have to sdgust your timing going from Sac to Reno.

"could lose automatic emergency response services in the event of a crash and certain infotainment and convenience features such as real-time navigation and smartphone app features such as pre-cabin conditioning"

Whoop de do

[ - ] Jiggggg 1 point 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 18:04:52 ago (+1/-0)

What a soft, pussified society we live in. Pre-cabin conditioning to me means rolling your windows down when you park so it's not 115 degrees in there next time you drive

Almost used penski to move. Glad I didn't.

Sure. But when you rent a truck it has a contract. If you violate their contract by hanging political shit all over their truck you get what's coming to you.

Headline coming soon…

“Cardiac pacemaker manufacturers Abbott and Medtronic determine they do not support the actions of said white supremacists and will be terminating the service and support of anyone the FBI deems culpable.
Related:
The US Federal government is pressuring insulin makers Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly to implement similar measures.”

You can do the same thing with an army of cars

[ - ] texasblood 0 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 17:37:38 ago (+0/-0)

Kill switch capabilities have been built into commercial class 8 trucks for 20+year.
Fleet owners can shut their truck down via GPS remote.
None of this shit is new,OnStar been around unlocking cars for decades

[ - ] KeepPoal4fags 0 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 16:11:38 ago (+0/-0)

Wasn't it demonstrated already that any Bluetooth capable car can be remotely hacked and shut down?

[ - ] localsal 0 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 16:05:57 ago (+0/-0)

It would be a shame if that remote shutdown caused a fire. Total loss of the vehicle.

[ - ] oldblo 0 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 15:12:13 ago (+0/-0)

They want to ultimately make all cars under their total control.
You are not a driver. Only a passenger in a vehicle you never truly own.

[ - ] Boardallday_420_2 0 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 14:57:29 ago (+0/-0)

Mr. Robot shuts down cars remotely too.

[ - ] thebearfromstartrack4 0 points 3.2 yearsFeb 26, 2022 14:29:11 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah. I Think we should go BACK in a LOT of ways. There was NO problem, so WHY fix it?
