Ukrainian authorities are sounding the alarm over potentially disastrous scenarios which could ensue in areas of the Chernobyl containment zone, which includes an expansive region surrounding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant where radioactive contamination is highest, since the April 1986 disaster."

Adjacent to Chernobyl is the infamous "Red Forest," which might be a familiar setting to anyone who ever played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It's a wooded area that was exposed to radiation on that faithful day in 1986. What happened was, everything there died. Not just the trees, but even the microbial organisms on the forest floor were affected. As result, the biomass of fallen leaves from the dead trees has never and will never be consumed. It remains as a tinder box waiting for one spark to set off a radioactive inferno. If a stray round hits those trees, you don't want to be standing anywhere downwind.

"Increasing fear of the resuspension of radiated particles in the event of a Red Forest fire, launched a rushed mitigative effort to bury the radioactive waste.

A majority of the pine trees were bulldozed and buried along with radiated soil, litter and debris in 2-3 meter deep trenches by the ‘liquidators’. The trenches were then covered with a thick carpet of sand, sourced locally or brought in by Kamaz trucks. Planted atop were cover crops of pine saplings, birch, rye and shrubs, which aimed to keep the sand in place with an interconnected matrix of branches and roots."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was great, still is. A new VR game called 'Into the Radius' is really good too although still not as good as stalker IMO. Metro was fun too but I don't like that you have very limited ammo.
