each consumer product must travel around the world before it appears on your plate, that's globalism.

A friend of mine sent me a package from NE US to western europe recently. It went to chicago first, then hung around there for a week or so checking in and out of the same shipping center, then it went to tokyo, they sent it back to chicago, back to tokyo, ended up in a naval base in yokohama, back to tokyo, back to chicago then eventually it broke out of that loop and ended up heading roughly in my direction.

This isn't the first time I've seen this kind of thing happen, particularly with USPS. That and the footage of all the packages that get raided off trains in cali...

The whole argument for putting the government in charge of postage is because private postal services aren't trustworthy, but honestly at this point you might as well be putting floats on your package, dumping it in the ocean, and hoping it drifts up a river to it's destination.

Never send anything through USPS with Priority, it takes way longer than normal rate and it will sit in one place for days or they'll send it in loops like you said. I think they do it out of spite... "Oh, you're in a hurry for this, I don't think so..."

I just assumed it was the local chicagoan wildlife chucking random packages on random planes.

This is what happens when diversity hires are on boarded to replace people who are about to retire.

Keep them for 20 years until they're collector's items, then you really can sell them around the world.

[ - ] HeavyBrain 2 points 2.2 yearsFeb 23, 2022 11:05:27 ago (+2/-0)

Its ok, we got rid of plastic straws and fuck up our landscape with inefficient stuff.

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 23, 2022 18:11:55 ago (+0/-0)

we DO NOT get to DEPENDING on globalization (God is against it too (Bible)). That is my advice. THAT puts, a person, or a SMALL group of peple, IN CHARGE (we cannot get good ANY other way) of WHAT WE GET.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 23, 2022 18:06:53 ago (+1/-0)

That's globohomo zogress!

[ - ] PostWallHelena 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 23, 2022 17:12:57 ago (+1/-0)

Exactly. The woke corporations of wall street care so much about global warming they want to make you use less carbon fossil fuels while outsourcing all our manufacturing to chinese who make cheap shit that needs replacing in half the time it would last if it was made by white americans and has to be shipped thousands of miles.

Economies of scale plus cheap labor:

Cheap $20 shoes manufactured in Vietnam and shipped to the US cost about $0.30 per shoebox in pre-Covid times:

https://youtu.be/8d5d_HXGeMA?t=428

Though it IS surprising the packing doesn't happen locally in Argentina.

[ - ] CHIRO 3 points 2.2 yearsFeb 23, 2022 12:54:06 ago (+3/-0)*

Most people's intuitive concepts of what's economical fail at the scales we're talking about, for exactly the reasons you mention. We have bad ideas about economies of scale, about the expenses of shipping and offsets achieved by using labor that might be significantly cheaper. But one thing people can probably be sure about, is that if it looks stupid, it probably isn't actually stupid. The company doing this has reasons they are doing it that way, and it's always going to involve minimizing costs. They just have ways of doing that which none of the rest of us do.

Calling what we're seeing in the OP necessarily inefficient would be like saying that the human body having a central pump and oxygenating organs for blood is inefficient. All cells should fend for themselves locally. It probably doesn't make sense to the toe that signals concerning the intestine have to originate up in the head. That's because the toe doesn't have capabilities that the brain does.

Nothing on food labeling has to be true anymore.

Hard to say exactly what happens inside the food supply system.

You not have farmers markets? If not move. I pay $2.99/lb ground beef. In CAD.

I've seen products at Unilever made for the Philippine and Australian market but are never in American stores.
