If most men are strong and will take death over tyranny, there will be little killing because evil knows that it won't prevail. But when men are weak and evil is dominating, strong men are at risk because they are rare and will be targeted. Once civilization allows itself to decay to the latter, it takes a lot of lives to get back to the former.

Unless you're talking about WW2 Germans, I haven't actually seen evil target strong men. I've seen them target loud, brave, but largely non-violent men, but I've yet to see them target truly strong men.

If you can think of one, let me know, but I can't.
As far as I can tell, evil is leaving the remaining strong men alone, because they know the safest place to be is hiding behind the strong men's kin, which they cannot do if they attack the strong men directly.

Actually, fear is comparative. What is important is to fear things in the correct order, but always keep your cool in all situations. I fear a loss of freedom for my people more than I fear for my life, even if presented with eminent death.
