Any protestor who honestly believes in using Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi as examples to emulate, without taking into account the laughably favorable circumstances that made them the outliers of peaceful resistance to ever achieve anything, is someone you must remove from the high place of your resistance asap, even if they were the founders of the movement.
Given the situation that Gandhi and King found themselves in, they were completely unnecessary to bring about the changes largely attributed to them, they were little more than figureheads, and their activism movement were unneeded as their societies were already underway in making the changes that they had fought for.
The leaders of these protests are fools if they think they can win this one without taking on the police in a fight.
The history of peaceful protest is almost entirely that of failure to accomplish anything, its good for raising awareness and drawing the ire of the establishment.
Imagine you get 100% of the common folk to agree with you, if all they do I as you do, you get nothing but a population that talks about being oppressed, while doing nothing to escape their oppression probably out of done suicidal commitment to peace and lawfulness, like yours, endlessly pursuing the same tired ineffectual "resistance" activities that are less like activism at this point, and more like a ritual that accomplishes nothing much more than some feeling of self comfort.
Awareness alone will change nothing, only action could, furthermore, there is always a limit to the number of people who are even potentially able to receive your message, and of them, most will be unaffected by it, content to live their lives as they always had, despite their new knowledge, they aren't just cowards who need courage, they aren't just lazy and in need of motivation, they aren't just lacking in confidence about their ability to produce change, they are busy with other things and want you keep their heads down because they have lives to live, they are already fighting their own battles, and the system has already realized how useful it is to place a burden on the average man so that he may not take up another so readily.
Best you could get in the realm of peaceful action are lawsuits, but those ain't free, and a good tyrannical system will do what they could from getting the vital funds from going to where they are needed, few are willing to pay out the ass only for the government to simply swoop in and steal their funds.
If things even go to court, the expectation is that the courts will not have any incentive to rule in your favor, and every incentive not to, even I'm I'm absence of corruption, the facts of the case and legal precedent are incidental to a judges consideration, their first priority is always the maintainence of order in their society, even a stable rule of tyranny and oppression is preferable to a breakdown of peace into chaos or violence. They will gladly allow a genocide to occur so long as it's being done in an orderly fashion, where citizens are not a threat to the enforcers of law, they don't want riots, so they will avoid uproarious rulings like the plague if they can.
Voting is the next best thing, sometimes the government let's you tell them who you think should be in charge out of a selection of options chosen for your consideration by the government (which means that anyone who's actually a challenge to the system is ruled out of the options made available to you).
Even then, the purpose of this show is to alleviate the pressure that turns harmless (for the system) hope into dangerous (again, for they who are in charge) desperation, to keep you hopeful and not desperate, so you would refrain from considering violent action against the system by offering you an illusion of choice, in reality, the system has candidates they'd prefer to win and those they'd prefer to lose, whatever the votes are that come in, they will rig the results, and the secret ballot means that nobody could know that the results were fraudulent.
Even when called on their actions, they deny any wrongdoing and shame their accusers while doing all they could to trick the average Joe into not expressing their disbelief that the election legitimate, even when the truth of the matter is obvious, without any threat of violence against them, they can just hurry themselves along with their preferred candidates in office, everyone knows they are only in there because the vote was rigged, but that doesn't matter if no one is willingbyo kill them for not overturning the vote.
They don't need to run an investigation, but in the event they do, they will get the right people to carry it out, the investigation will consist of destroying every piece of evidence that incriminates the system, and then concluding that that fraud had occurred, the establishment doesn't have to worry about the investigation team, most of the investigators are proud members of the establishment.

1: Those controlled by the overlords to placate active normies and give them the feeling that they 'did something'.
2: Organic protests that lead to more 'constructive methods' once the participants realize that these protests have little to no effect.

French revolution style, followed by the reign of terror that is needed to preserve a fragile new regime from being crushed, subverted, etc.
The terror is needed to fortify the position once it has been taken. If you get lucky like the usa did, nobody will talk about what you had to do after winning to keep yourself on the hard won position you've taken.
If unlucky, you end up like the French, and be remembered more for the cleanup of mess left behind by the old regime and its support network, and the tying uo if loose ends so as to leave no vulnerability for the predators that surround you in your momment of weakness.
It's inescapable, the revolution must be followed by purges of the remnant and of the eager opportunists who had been waiting for your momment of victory to strike.
Never trust a revolutions success until after the purge has been completed, if no purge, assume the revolution failed and was simply appropriated by the strongest guy around with only the appearance of its success.

The diplomat persuaded people his ideas had merit, the barbarian persuaded people that the diplomat be permitted to speak.
Everyone remembers the diplomat, nobody remembers the barbarian, that's how both would have liked it to be.
Most peaceful and benevolent figures who are known to have changed things by talking or making deals often had brutes working for them in the shadows, using might to keep things moving smoothly.
Nobody remembers the brutes, but with their particular set of skills, there'd be no hope for the speaker to do so much as make their case, let alone make it convincingly.

Both of whom had incredibly violent shitskins waiting for them to fail. That and we all know what "mostly peaceful protests" means by now. And it was likely there was heavy gov involvment with both of them.
