Password/Email Stolen

submitted by stone12345 to AskUpgoat 3.3 yearsFeb 13, 2022 15:12:06 ago (+2/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

A while ago on 4chan, I saw mention of a website that would let you see which specific passwords/emails have been stolen. My Mom's card has recently been getting dinged, does anyone know of this website?

She needs to reformat her computer. Get her on Bitwarden with a strong password.

Google's password manager does this. I'm not aware of a website.

They're compiling a list of big data breaches though. If your Mom got a virus or something she needs to change them all.

If you use google password manager, you're an idiot. Try Bitwarden

Only for passwords I don't care about. For ones that I do, like crypto, I don't use a password manager.

Yes, and if you send me .10 of a bitcoin I can totally fix that for her. You do love your mom don't you?

...wait...what are we discussing?

I don't think this works for credit card info, though.

Not sure what kind of card. She probably already canceled it. She has a bunch of different passwords and this has been happening to a lot of them. She does not want to change all of them, do you know of any way I could figure out how to find which ones are stolen?

Does she do any online shopping/banking?
If so, sounds like she has a keylogger/spyware.

Edit: she could also be the victim of card skimmers.

Yeah, I think she even sells some stuff on eBay.

Edit: Just checked with her, people have been making accounts on Venmo using her information, and something happened with her Facebook. So it definitely sounds like some kind of spyware.

Well, if Ebay was compromised, they are required by law to notify customers.
Check her emails from a clean computer.
And check that link I posted up top.

You used the term 'dinged'; is someone making charges?
I've had my credit card info stolen before; the bank should have an itemized list of purchases when she contests the charges.
You can usually narrow down when and maybe where the info got stolen.
We figure mine was from a card skimmer at a gas pump on a trip to Tampa.

Edit: caught your edit after submitting.
Contact security at the companies where spoof accounts are being made; most sites are good about tackling fraud.

I already checked that website, around 26 breaches showed up.
Yes, someone has made charges, but we got that figured out. What worries me is that abnormal things have been going on with her online accounts, she says.

Edit: Ok, would something like Malwarebytes catch spyware?

I can't speak to their AV but I use their adware cleaner every so often.
I use Avast!; if I thought my machine were compromised I would run a boot-time scan and run a full scan after that.
She may also consider changing her wireless password, too, as well as run an AV scan on her phone if she does mobile shopping.
