I'm a decade into the electrical trade. The sacrifice is your body. The toll can be avoided if you specialize in something that is minimal wear and tear. But your common electrician crawling in attics, underneath houses and other tight dirty spaces,it takes a heavy toll. Mentally as well. I only know a handful of electricians that don't have some horrible habit because of the job and the pain in the ass it is sometimes. A lot of broken families. A lot of drug addictions. People die too out here. I knew a guy that fell off a six foot ladder and hit his head and died. You work with a bunch of fuck ups who you have to rely on with your life.
There are also the customers. Holy fuck. A bunch of rich rich assholes with BLM signs in their yards. Completely detached from reality and think you are charging them too much. While when you leave theyre sending thousands to some black or Jewish charity scheme. Don't get me wrong there are some good people. But most of the time you will be working for Jews and other unworthy people.
But after eight years you can have your own business with Boone to stop you but yourself. Right now in the trade an electrician can name their own price. I offered to do a small job for an aquitance said I would charge 100/hr and he shook my hand and thanked me. He couldn't even get anyone to look at it for less than 120/hr.
But the physical and mental toll are real. So is the danger. And you never know who you'll be working with. I gave it a shot and it's paying dividends now. But my right hand I've hurt three fingers on it. My right elbow is shot.
I wrote it while sitting on a port a John. Cold seat.
Now that I'm warm and on my lunch break, let me add that you will meet some of realest men there are. There are great connections in the trades. I've met good plumbers. Good carpenters. Good HVAC men. Men. That's another thing. Outside of the unions trades are almost exclusively men. There is way less bullshit. There is bullshit. But less of it. And different than the bullshit you face working a desk around women and HR.
You put your time in and eventually you can start a business and charging whatever you want.
I've grown up a lot since I started the trade. It teaches you a lot of things an office gig can't. Working with your body, carrying heavy equipment every day. It trains your body in a different way than lifting weights or running.
Didn't want to shit all over the trades. There are definitely benefits. Sometimes the job can be actually fun around the right people.
Yeah if I can get someone to show up when they say so, I'd pay 100/hr easy. Especially for a short job, they deserve that. I don't hire someone unless I need it so don't expect it to be some cakewalk shit, but I'll pay you for your time and effort.

As some one who works in the trades, really wish I would have done something I enjoyed.
Money is good, work is abundant, but holy-cat-shit-batman does my body hurt all of the time. End of day, body hurts. Wake up in the morning, body hurts.
Drug use is also rampant within the trades, especially roofers.

Are we the same person now?
I rummed my own business so hard, it had a hangover for years after the audit!

The missus got me a whiskey barrel for my birthday! That was very thoughtful.
Now I just need to build that still.

I gotta add rum to the shopping list, because it is, in fact, all gone. There's still half a bottle of whiskey, so it has not become an issue yet.
