Edo Period was a mixed bag
the nation was united and at peace, but the price of peace was the disarmament of all peasants and those who were not samurai class

is endless conflict better than peaceful slavery?
sometimes i think yes, for in conflict people become stronger and more independent to rule their own destiny

but also at the same time, bring endless misery to the innocent (farmers, women, children)
peacetimes does bring prosperity, but without conflict men become dull and weak...
