A giant donut-shaped machine just proved a near-limitless clean power source is possible

scientists working in the United Kingdom announced that they more than doubled the previous record for generating and sustaining nuclear fusion, which is the same process that allows the sun and stars to shine so brightly.

I now have $5 in my bank account instead of $2.50.

magic!

He said the fusion generated by JET was around the same as a wind turbine, and could power one house's energy for a day.
Meh. "Doubled the previous record" meant going from 2.5 seconds to 5 seconds before the magnets would have melted down. Still many decades away. If they can prove room temp fusion is possible, that would be a story.

Yep. Fusion is overhyped garbage. Another trick they like to pull in these announcements is they'll say how much power they are generating without telling you how much power they are inputting to get it. All the current fusion experiments require enormous amounts of conventional energy to run.

Nuclear fusion, what could possibly go wrong?

Nothing dangerous, there is nothing radioactive involved and any loss of containmen5 immediately stops the process.

I have a whole case of containmen5 in the basement, just in case!

I like fission way better, but this is a nice start.

Clearly people here have no idea how a Tokamak works.

Late at night I disobeyed a traffic signal. It was dumb. One of the few times on the road I've done something bad.

I was sorta hoping you'd absolve me...and at no cost.

I’m curious how they will keep it from melting... am I missing something here?

The plasma is restrained by an extremely powerful magnetic field, during correct operation it never gets close to the containment vessel.

So laws of thermodynamics cease to exist? All that heat has to go somewhere. After 5 seconds, what the fuck are they going to do to keep it all from melting? Are you saying a magnetic field keeps heat from transferring to the rest of the the device? The article states differently.

lets make a miniature star on earth then get a bunch of diversity hires to oversee it. that's how we can end clown world.

Cant explode unlike a normal reactor
