The North Carolina elections board declared this week that it has the power to bar Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) from running for office due to his actions related to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. It insists that it can enforce Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment and declared that he is an insurrectionist.
This seems like the kind of action that would kick off a political assassination or three. I know senators have great private security, but elections board officials? I didn't think they could get any more blatant than the 2020 steal, but kicking a sitting rep off the ballot would do it.
It's more that they may because they are momentarily empowered to do so. Probably as virtue signaling. They already know they are unlikely to succeed at booting a sitting representative from the ballot. It's a sort of shit check combined with a temper tantrum.
