Interesting. I've seen some different content, but I sort by new, and sorting by Hot or whatever might get the quickest lols and therefore highest response votes.

Generally the funny meme will get the lulz votes, agreed, while the 2500 word treatise or thought piece will get 5-6 votes, simply because most people are looking for a tl;dr, myself often included.

For example, someone posted a video link to a piece about the effects of common drugs on the human body, and showed the experiments on human cadavers. That isn't my thing, so I asked for a tl;dr and got one in response. That was a good quality post that will probably not reach the front page.

Someone else posted Ted Kaczynski's entire manifesto as an audio book style video that I saved for later. also a good quality post. That guy was prescient as can be.

I guess I would disagree that there are only whines and simple minded posts.
