We are already surrounded by them.

They are just of the voodoo variety.

They look just like us, it could be hard to know one from sight alone, they are not dead, and are not very good at being infectious (except in large groups surrounding those of weak or developing wills).

They act just like us too (for the most part), they are not slow, nor stupid, but just lacking in free will and sense of self preservation.

As seen in voodun, they are slaves, their souls are weakened or destroyed and then dominated or replaced with bad juju (spirits).

They are directed by the necromancer (bokor) who made them to do harm to those their masters ordered them to attack, and attack they will, for they are no longer capable of resisting the orders they were given by those who hold their souls (or remnants thereof) hostage, thet are compelled to dance to a tune played to them by their masters, one which only they could hear.

It doesn't look like mind control, not to outsiders, and not to them, either, the compelling music seems to them like the voice of their own minds, they think that everything they do is of their own free will, but it isn't.

The bokor is well aware of the reality, there's a spell on them, and their souls belong to their masters. They cannot help but obey their master's wishes. Even if it means the end of their lives, or those of their loved ones, they will obey.

The appearance of free will, to them and those who encounter them, is an illusion, a part of the mind control is the mind telling itself that it is not being controlled, even though it is. This could be very persuasive, the taken feel as though they are acting on their own, and the people that witness them are often givennthevsabe impression.


But make no mistake about it, they are dead inside, hollow puppets that dance to music played to them by the puppeteer, silent music that only they can gear, there is no freedom for them, only a comforting lie that they just coincidentally want to do as they are being told (even though it only accomplishes doing harm to others, themselves, and all they love when they do so).
