You are correct in pointing that out.
Although, technically, to get dressed for other occasions (and even "for bed" is one) one has to get "undressed" first. "Dressing", for most instances, also includes getting undressed.
I was told it's because men draw their swords with their right hand across their torso. Don't want to get hung up.
Also told why Americans drive on the right, it started with horse and buggies the right hand was often raised with the whip and one preferred not to obscure the road
