Pattern recognition. Look to see the difference between states going from left to right, top to bottom, and in this one 3rd on the line to 1st of the next line. Determine changing differences and predict the next one in the series. In essence it's this shit https://atozmath.com/example/NumberSeries.aspx?he=e&q=1 with shapes instead of numbers

Yep, and I couldn't begin to tell you why. My hind-brain just solves this shit right away, tells the fore-brain the answer, and doesn't bother explaining how it got there. Made me great at trouble-shooting network and computer problems, terrible at telling people why my answer is the right answer...because I don't know why it's right, it just fucking works.

Took me about 15 seconds to see F is the answer. If I'm wrong, then, well, fuck it, because if I'm right I don't know why anyway.

I can only find one concrete pattern that doesn't feel like an ass pull: The right side rotates clockwise to the next row's left. That's likely a red herring; nothing can be extrapolated from that without understanding the central column's correlation with the surrounding squares.

I give up.

This is a copy paste of an answer I found: rotate the shape on the end of the line 90deg clockwise to get the shape on the new line

I saw how box 3 is identical to 4 and 6 is to 7 (with 4 and 7 rotated a quarter turn clockwise). However I don't see enough to extrapolate box 9 without a box 10. Box 1 doesn't seem to fit.

It is a two phase transform.

Phase 1 moves the symbols over one block to the right. SYmbols at the end of the row move down to the next row. position 3 on row 3 moves to position 1 row 1.

Phase 2 replaces all symbols with a different symbol (after being moved in phase 1). Circles with triangles. Squares with circles. Triangles with squares

The rules for two to three, and five to six are the same and have no relation to square one, three, and seven.

Within the square, the right two columns move to the right. Then all of the shapes change: circle to triangle, triangle to square, square to circle. The new left column also changes order from the previous right column, but this information is not necessary to select solution f

Yeah I saw the solution. I shouldn’t have ignored row 1. My pattern probably doesn’t hold up for it since my answer isn’t right. For anyone wondering, the answer is F and Poopdawg has linked a YouTube video with the explanation.

This is remarkable. I might try to label the image itself with some of your terms. "Iterations set" and suchlike. I'm trying to go from not understanding to understanding the best I can.

I'm very interested in what is the clearest way to think about it: refining the explanatory language.

Just as a last thing for this comment...I deal with espionage. My grandfather was an Old Guard U.S. spy -- the C.I.C. in WWII -- and I deal with a lot a lot of blowback from that. When I'm trying to divine truth I might message you privately, concerning questions far different from this, if that's alright with you.

Soni noticed how the shapes go from t>s>c unless they "wrap around" as they pass the right border then they go backwards, but this doesnt hold for all boxes. Sometimes the shapes in a column will flip (top>bottom, leaving middle) but it is 1 am and im too tired to finish and need to do dishes anyway. I saved the image and I want to figure it out later.

If you follow the three in a row they all have a single matching shape in the other structures. G follows the pattern with a single triangle above the three triangles in a row.

This is an opinion piece. You can find different patterns to get different answers. I don't see how it helps with judging intelligence.

Maybe they gave this question to lots of people, and found a high correlation with intelligence. Would an intelligent person waste a lot of time on this, though, given the low likelihood of any benefit of solving it?
