Bonus points for doing it on proper hardware.

I had a friend in high school who ran his own shitty BBS. Used to go on there and play their shitty games and chat. It was kind of cool back in the day. I wanted to run my own BBS too after that, but trying to run a BBS when your family house had only 1 phoneline, in the days before cell phones, was a terrible idea.

I remember a lot of the BBS's you could visit without making a long distance call, had really nerdy names. Things like "Red Dragon Tavern" or other fantasy and sci-fi style names. Sort of miss those days, when you basically had to be a nerd, or know nerds, just to even be online.

L.O.R.D. and B.R.E. were a couple of my favorite door games. Pissed off a bunch of people when I figured out the passwords to the software running the BBS in my house, and gave myself 99,999,999 gold in every game.

BBS are making a comeback. Lots of stuff going on now-a-days...

That'd be nice. Been looking around for a more active one.

Gotta boot up my old compaq XT with its 300 BAUD serial modem.

I wonder what I ever did with it's fancy amber monochrome monitor... that thing cost more than all the rest of the computer when I bought it at the computer show in 1990 or so. No, I guess it was 1994, give or take.

If you paid an arm and a leg for an amber monochrome monitor back in 1994-ish, then you got royally raped. A friend of mine used to by monochrome MDA/VGA monitors for his computer shop for $59 back in 1990 through 1994. Those were single unit prices at that.

I shopped all over for that thing; it must have been earlier than that, because amber was the cool new monochrome just then, and I found one for a 'good' deal at the computer show. I like green better now.

Some say Compaq built the first 100% IBM-PC compatible clone.
