Its an old world remnant from the Eurasian steppe. Hardy beasts as far as food and climate are concerned, but probably not long for this world. They are being ravaged by disease and were, in the past, over hunted to save the african rhinoceros. Its horn was substituted as a replacement for the rhino horn. It also happens to be the namesake of the civilian variant of the AK series from Kalashnikov Concern (formerly Izhevsk Mechanical Works).
