Saw almost the same thing in a B movie about a global vampire virus. The medicine was made by the same people that made and released the virus. The main antagonist always wore his nose plugs but was infected from the start.
I watched the whole thing and my mind isnt that far gone yet. Someone did however start selling that kind of thing once people began to reject constant suffocation and lung damage from the masks. I just find it ironic that society walks a worse path than that of a totalitarian cyberpunk dystopia despite all the warning signs. I understand it though. The commoner has little influence and the elite mostly benefit by subjecting others to horrors that should have remained imaginary.
