It has nothing to do with protecting or being protected. It has to do with being able to play with your own pet. Dogs aren't little moody pussies that get scared, then run off and won't come back when you call them. And since you mentioned it, I'd much rather have an animal that is useful and the 2 of us could hunt together and be equally useful to each other. Cats are gay, and are never going to be useful, unless you're really trying to get your house to smell like animal piss, in that case, they're very useful. Cats big gay.
