And one major common sense argument for ya. Why just the penis? Why not cut off butt cheeks? I mean if you leave shit on your butt cheeks for years and it gets infected, you'll probably die. So why not cut them off too? Maybe because people know how to wipe their ass, just like they can wipe their schmegma.
But you are defending a book which specifically commands it. Regardless of what jesus may or may not done, at one point the creator of that book and the new testament alike, commanded child mutilation. So why trust anything said by the same person who enjoys watching children suffer?
You yourself admit it is barbaric... so how do you put faith in someone who commands barbaric acts?
One thing I'd like to add. The old testament and the new testament happened in the span of a blink of an eye for god. So within a blink of an eye, he goes from mutilate those children to, jesus says you dont have to. What will he command in the next blink of an eye?
