I'm kind of tired of the articles bitching that guys are out on X bail. FUCKING PROSECUTE PEOPLE, and you won't have to worry so much about what their bail is or isn't set at. There is no valid reason why a basic criminal trial should take more than a few days to get setup. Witnesses forget shit when you wait years, too.

Another thing about letting people out, regardless of how large the bail is, is the prosecutors take that as carte blanche to wait years to move on the case. If a guy is in jail, his lawyer can petition the court and say "this is bullshit, you gotta try the guy or let him out." One of many things that's gotten worse supposedly due to COVID, though it's not been good for a long time.
