I know in Cambodia, under the Khmer Rouge communist regime, millions of the educated Cambodians were sent to the killing fields. They went so far as to execute people for merely looking smart, wearing glasses for example. It's estimated that 2 million people were killed but the number is probably closer to ten million. Think about what effect that would have on future generations if between two and ten million of the smartest people in your relatively small country were culled leaving only the lower half of the bell curve.

That said, Cambodia is on my bucket list. I really want to see Ankor Wat and go to riverside nitrous bars.
