The New Testament didn't exist at the time the tradition was forming around trinitarian theology. Sola scriptura is literally an incoherent doctrine. The trinity is unique in its Christian understanding, but the absolute origins of what you might call the 'trinitarian idea' are old, and shared among the worlds traditions, including Egyptian and Hindu. Christians see the revelation of Christ as confirmation of a perennial wisdom that had been present in the world's traditions from the beginning of religious history - well, I should say, informed Christians. There are things about the Catholic faith that are not mentioned in the Bible, and this fact shouldn't bother existing Christians or seekers heading in that direction. Again, Christianity was forming for 300 years before the book we know as the Bible was redacted in an official way. No major religion is fully contained in its canonical text; they are formed by Tradition + Text. It is ubiquitously the case that Tradition precedes Text.
