I used to hang out with Polish guys, finally my limited knowledge of Polish can be useful.

Did the guy think an animal was going to wander 5 feet in front of him for him to shoot?

That's one of the worst large animal hunting positions I could ever imagine - as demonstrated by the aftermath.

Height is helpful.

Even if this was a "run the elk to the hunter" type situations, there isn't enough visibility where the guy was to draw a bead on a fast moving animal.

I don't think even a direct vital hit would have stopped it at that range and speed.

You are correct. By the time the animal came into view, momentum would have still created a collision.

He wasn't camping there like American "hunting". He was tracking and found it there. Sitting in a tree and waiting is not hunting. It is stupid and boring.

That is my biggest problem with hunting. I have no problem killing an animal, I eat meat after all, but it looks boring as fuck.
