Technically yes. If we are talking about magnetic hard drives then the bit on the drive is stored by having multiple domains aligned, those domains being small metallic crystals.

So yes, there are crystals that can store a persistent state and we use a ton of them to store the data of the internet.

Yup. I had a similar thought. Doesn't mean this bitch ain't crazy, but yeah, HDDs are made of metal, and metals all retain a crystalline structure so...

The internet is totally stored on crystals.

WE TAUGHT SAND HOW TO THINK!

yeah but she is talking about big chunks of quartz and stuff that she wears as jewelry

Semiconductor wafers are literally made from crystals. Most often called a "boule," it's just a big-ass silicon crystal.

It may be derived from crystals in some sense, but there are no crystals in a hard drive.

[ - ] x0x7 1 point 2.3 yearsJan 12, 2022 22:43:48 ago (+1/-0)

Yes there are. The domains of a ferric metal are crystalline. That's what stores the magnetism esp. the direction of that magnetism.

Doesn't this bitch know the internet is a series of tubes and ladders?

[ - ] GoldenAgeWhen 2 points 2.3 yearsJan 12, 2022 13:50:39 ago (+2/-0)

how large of a truck can i drive in this tube?

There are no ladders. Fuck off with your disinfo.

no man sits in a chair like that

I think for that crew it would seem pretty normal.

My cousin would sit in chairs like that until he was almost 30. He’s asexual.

Why is it always some crazy bitch that thinks crystals are magical?

[ - ] x0x7 6 points 2.3 yearsJan 12, 2022 08:59:24 ago (+6/-0)

But they are. Without them we wouldn't have the internet.

However, in the summer of 2001, IBM announced a breakthrough in storage technology that could prolong the life of the conventional hard disk drive for the foreseeable future. The key to the breakthrough is a three-atom-thick layer of the element ruthenium, a precious metal similar to platinum, sandwiched between two magnetic layers. That only a few atoms could have such a dramatic impact has resulted in scientists referring to the ruthenium layer informally as pixie dust

Oh who gives a shit. Like magnets are any less magical than crystals. I'd fuck her.

Anyone ever heard of the theory of quartz crystal's holding data within some sort of holographic medium?

[ - ] 2017Fallout 0 points 2.3 yearsJan 12, 2022 13:48:08 ago (+0/-0)

No. Expand on this

All computer processors are carved from one big silicon crystal.

[ - ] Spaceman84 0 points 2.3 yearsJan 17, 2022 19:38:56 ago (+0/-0)

The same singular megalithic silicon crystal. It's in Antarctica. Same shit the raghead cube is cut from.
