Which one is Mom?

I'm tempted to go find the comments section to see what the general consensus is. But I'm not going to because I know what I'll find is hundreds of people talking about that 14-yr old's independence, controlling 'backward' parents, and the 'support' of 1.7 million weird pieces of shit who have no business 'following' a fucking 14-yr old.

Listen, the girl is pretty. We all know that. Congrats mom and dad, your daughter won a genetic lottery.

But there is no good reason why any adult needs to follow someone this age because they are pretty, or because they're interested in the life of someone this young. And if you want to argue that the majority of that 1.7 million is probably 14-17 yr old boys, you're not really getting over the hill. A person this age doesn't need to be made into something like this online; she doesn't need to know what it is like to be a source of adulation for 1.7 million people. She is 14 for fuck's sake.

But something tells me that this is all related to other 'mom behavior' I've seen on social media - I don't mean this mom specifically. Vicariously living through and elevating themselves because of their kids; shit maybe this is just the evolution of Honor Roll bumper stickers, and maybe I'm just a grumpy aging twat. So throw them to the wolves. They're your property right?

Now someone accuses me of hypocrisy because I'm stipulating that parents should treat their kids like property and keep them off the net.

So let's do this. I'm skeptical of any parent that is putting their child out there for consumption rather than being concerned with protecting them. But hey, if clout is today's currency, maybe moms think this is the best way to get their little beauties acting gigs. She already has a million followers! Like pre-marketing the cows for slaughter.

EDIT: It occurred to me that a starlet from my youth, Britney Spears, got famous at, what, age 15 or 16 or something. So fuck it. I guess this is nothing new. Same game, different arena. The same shit I said above could have been levied at parents auditioning their children at acting agencies in the 70s. What was the point if not mass consumption?
