No matter what they try to say now, before tasers were commonplace police used the excuse that tasers would replace firearms in encounters with the public. With the end result being that INSTEAD of using a gun, they would use a taser if possible. They lie about that fact now.

Tasers are used as compliance tools the same way as cattle prods(tasers) are used to control livestock.
