6"=152.4mm. Notice how 152.4>6? This is how we finally move to the metric system.

Don't get me wrong, I love doing fractions but in the rare cases when I just want to add or subtract two numbers I have to admit mm seem to be more accurate and easier to work with.

Fuck metric. Divisibility by 2, 3, 4, and 6 is far more useful than divisibility by 2 and/or 5.

Except metic is base 10 system and everything is literally a 10, just add a zero the end.
Whilst weights and measures in imperial don't terminate in the same base. 6ft, 30oz, etc.
Imperial is an archaic shit show.

And that’s your only argument. Meanwhile I can cut a yardstick into thirds evenly and you can’t do the same with a “meterstick.” Indeed, you don’t even have metersticks. Your wood isn’t even sold by the meter. It’s sold in 120 centimeter lengths because THEN IT’S A BASE 12 SYSTEM AND YOU CAN USE IT PROPERLY.

Whilst weights and measures in imperial don't terminate in the same base. 6ft, 30oz, etc.

Grams, meters, amperes, seconds, Kelvin, moles, and candela aren’t the same base either...

Imperial is an archaic shit show.

Appeal to novelty. Argument discarded. Have fun with your crypto-communist bullshit created by revolutionary frogs. We’ll be over here dividing by 3.

They put spurious "u"s in their words. They love the French.

Thats not how conversions work, its still base 10.

12" = 1'
3' = 1 yard
1760 yd = 1 mile

OR

10mm = 1 cm
100cm = 1m
1000m = 1km

Just add a zero.

What abouts weights and measures, liquid to mass or thrust vectoring for rockets?

Metric is caveman nonsense for potato farmers.

' dont even have metersticks'

We call them yardsticks.

Or you could chop them into decatrannies, or kilotrannies, et cetera, and so forth, amen.

More sensitive systems of measure tend to always behave better.

Metric has a lot going for it with distances and weights (sometimes) but temperature in Celsius is not as nice as deg F.

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 3.5 yearsJan 5, 2022 20:54:47 ago (+1/-0)

Distances are best measured in Smoots.

[ - ] localsal 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 5, 2022 22:12:44 ago (+0/-0)

That would be awesome.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 6, 2022 08:03:57 ago (+0/-0)

How.

0 is frozen water.

100 is boiling water.

Its pretty simple.

[ - ] localsal 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 6, 2022 14:28:05 ago (+0/-0)

Sensitive: being of a finer gradient.

There are 100 steps between freezing and boiling in deg C

There are 212 steps between freezing and boiling in deg F

deg F is more sensitive.

*180 degrees between boiling (212F) and freezing (32F)

Metric is worse when you are communicated on sketchy radio as everything ends in -meters.

If the radio cuts out; milli--meter, centi--meter, deci--meter, nigger--meter, fagga--meter, kilo--meter; can all be mistaken for ---meter.

Where as standard is better, if the radio cuts out on miles, feet, yards, or inches. The receiving party can better interpret the original context.

It makes even more sense when converting from metric into imperial as they are all 10 base systems and you dont get weird decimal points, but rather terrible imperial fractionals.

[ - ] cyclops1771 2 points 3.5 yearsJan 5, 2022 20:09:59 ago (+2/-0)

How many degrees in a circle? Days in a week? Hours in a day? Minutes in an hour?

Base 10 is gay and boring.

[ - ] lord_nougat 3 points 3.5 yearsJan 5, 2022 22:14:42 ago (+3/-0)

42?

1488?

When I was going to school in the 70's they brainwashed us into the Metric system. Saying it's going to convert very soon, had to learn it because we had to. And then? Nothing.

[ - ] localsal 2 points 3.5 yearsJan 5, 2022 22:13:47 ago (+2/-0)

They'll never take our freeeeeddddddoooommmm units.

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 6, 2022 22:32:04 ago (+0/-0)

I heard it was a thing in the 80s for a couple weeks. Guess everyone said "fuck this".

[ - ] ilikeskittles 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 7, 2022 13:14:40 ago (+0/-0)

The metric is easier to deal with but, English is fine to. Most all of us can use both.

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 7, 2022 14:03:57 ago (+0/-0)

The funniest thing is that the British won't use km/h.

[ - ] ilikeskittles 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 7, 2022 14:12:21 ago (+0/-0)

Really? When I spent some time in England, all the speeding limit signs were in Km/h?

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 7, 2022 15:15:06 ago (+0/-0)

England, Wales and Scotland is MPH, Ireland is km/h.

It would be less complicated if they used units along with the numbers.

[ - ] ilikeskittles 0 points 3.5 yearsJan 7, 2022 15:17:38 ago (+0/-0)

Wow I really thought they were. But it's been a long time.
